Each machine type\nbelongs to a machine series, which is a curated set of\nprocessor and hardware configurations optimized for specific Cloud SQL\nworkloads.\n\nFor example, the `db-perf-optimized-N-2` machine type is part of\nthe `N2` machine series.\n\nMachine series availability for Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition instances\n---------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nFor Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition instances, you can choose one of the following machine\nseries:\n\n- [**N2**](#n2): this machine series provides a balanced price-to-performance ratio for a variety of Cloud SQL workloads.\n- [**C4A**](#c4a) (Preview): this machine series provides optimized price-performance and delivers predictable high performance for high demand Cloud SQL workloads.\n\nFor Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition instances, each machine series\noffers predefined machine types with preset memory and\nvCPUs for your instances. Availability is dependent on your instance's\nCloud SQL edition, region, and database version.\n\n### N2 machine series\n\nN2 machine series provides a balanced price-performance\nfor a wide variety of database workloads, with a memory-to-compute ratio of 1 vCPU:8GB RAM. N2 machine series uses the\nPerformance Persistent Disk (PD-SSD) storage option. For more information about\nstorage types, see\n[Cloud SQL storage options overview](/sql/docs/mysql/storage-options-overview).\n\n#### N2 machine types\n\nThis following machine types are available for instances for the\nN2 machine series:\n\n### C4A machine series\n\nThe C4A machine series provides high performance for a\nvariety of performance sensitive database workloads.\n\nC4A uses the Hyperdisk Balanced storage option, which\nis a Google Cloud Hyperdisk offering. Google Cloud Hyperdisk is the newest generation\nof network block storage service in Google Cloud. For more information about\nstorage types, see\n[Cloud SQL storage options overview](/sql/docs/mysql/storage-options-overview).\n\nC4A machine series offers predefined machine types that\nare dependent on your instance's region and configuration.\n\nYour Cloud SQL for MySQL Enterprise Plus edition instance must be MySQL\nversion 8.0.31 and later to select a C4A machine series.\n\n\nFor more information on which regions are supported, see\n[Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition region support](/sql/docs/mysql/editions-intro#editions-regions).\n\n#### C4A machine types\n\nThe following table shows predefined machine types that are available for the\nC4A machine series with optional Data Cache:\n\n#### C4A machine series limitations\n\nConsider the following limitations when choosing the C4A machine series for\nyour Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition instance:\n\n- Upgrading and downgrading your instance's Cloud SQL edition isn't supported.\n- You can't change your instance's machine series after instance creation.\n- You can't restore an instance to an instance with a different machine series. The machine series for the restored instance must match the new instance.\n- Your instance's replicas must be the same machine series as the instance.\n\nMachine series availability for Cloud SQL Enterprise edition instances\n----------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nFor Cloud SQL Enterprise edition instances, Cloud SQL\noffers shared core or dedicated core machine series. Shared core offers\nmachine types with predefined CPUs (cores) and amount of memory for your\ninstances.\n\nDedicated cores are custom instance configurations that let you select the\namount of memory and CPUs that your instance needs. This flexibility lets you\nchoose the appropriate VM shape for your workload.\n\nCustom machine type names use the following format: `db-custom-{CPUs}-{Memory}`.\nWhen you select the number of CPUs and amount of memory, there are some\nrestrictions on the configurations that you can choose:\n\n- vCPUs must be either 1 or an even number between 2 and 96.\n- Memory must be:\n - 0.9 to 6.5 GB per vCPU\n - A multiple of 256 MB\n - At least 3.75 GB (3840 MB)\n\nPricing\n-------\n\nThe machine series you select affects the cost of your instance. For more\ninformation, see [Instance pricing](/sql/pricing#2nd-gen-instance-pricing).\nYou can also use the [pricing calculator](/products/calculator)\nto see pricing for various scenarios."]]
